Photoshop retouches – example

I recently found a really hi-res Edward Scissorhands poster online and took the opportunity to fix it up in Photoshop. By manipulating color levels and contrast, this is a really good example of how effective Photoshop can be. Below is a comparison of the original theatrical poster and my retouched version. I didn’t like the red tinge to the original and I removed unwanted text to simplify the composition. I normally don’t put things like this in my portfolio, but I was very happy with the way it turned out.

Calvin and Hobbes Movie Poster

I recently revised the Calvin and Hobbes homage poster and converted it into a mock-up film poster (as my original idea and the layout lent itself to the format). Obviously this is a tongue in cheek send up, as Mr. Watterson has never allowed his creation to be cheapened by commercial business interests, whether they be merchandise options or cross-media interpretations.

Album Cover

I recently did an album cover for a friend and wanted to make the cover photo sort of nostalgic and vintage looking. I am a big fan of faded and scratched photos – an excellent example of the faded vintage look would be Kerry Murrays’ work – check out her blog for examples. I have replaced the original album title with ‘Vintage’.

Film Poster Experiment – Closer (2004)

Closer is one of my favorite films and I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it. The 2004 theatrical poster was an incredible achievement in design and there is not much one can do to improve on such elegance. I tried my own version with clean lines and a rigid template keeping the portrait theme of the original.

Calvin and Hobbes Tribute

I have been a smitten Calvin and Hobbes fan for many years now and there are a lot of Calvin & Hobbes tributes online. Alot of people envision Calvin & Hobbes in a realistic ‘live action’ kind of way. If you imagine Calvin and his pet tiger in real life then picture a boy walking around with a fully grown bengal tiger. An excellent example from James Hance recently inspired me to do my own homage in a realistic style. First up I want to show the original Bill Watterson Calvin and Hobbes that the world has come to know and love.
